Season 12’s Mythic hunt has been a bit of a rude awakening. I started out doing what loads of us did: spamming Tormented Duriel and Andariel like it was still last season, dumping mats, watching the same tired uniques fall over and over. After a while it stops being „RNG is RNG“ and starts feeling like you’re just paying an entry fee to be disappointed. Even gold becomes part of the pain, because you’re repairing, rerolling, and Masterworking scraps, so I get why people look up stuff like Diablo 4 gold buy when the whole loop turns into chores instead of progression.
What actually changed in the loot loop
My „oh, right“ moment came when I ran dry on Stygian Stones and had no choice but to live in the new Horde-style activity. That’s when the pattern became obvious. The Mythic hype isn’t really tied to the end boss pop anymore; it’s tied to the higher-tier reward chests and the way they spit out Greater Affix-heavy gear. You’ll notice it fast if you pay attention to where the good items appear. It’s not from that single boss explosion. It’s from the chest choice you make after you’ve earned enough seasonal currency.A simple test, no coping
I didn’t want to convince myself with vibes, so I did a straight comparison: 1) fifteen hours of the old Tormented boss ladder rotations, and 2) fifteen hours pushing Tier 7+ in Horde and spending everything on Greater Equipment chests. Same player, same effort, no „maybe I played better that day“ excuses. The boss side gave me nothing Mythic and hardly any real GA upgrades. The Horde chest side gave me two Mythics and a pile of 2-GA pieces that were at least worth checking. That’s not „lucky,“ that’s the system showing you what it wants you to do.How to play it without burning out
So the plan’s pretty clear: 1) build for wide AoE and uptime so Tier 7+ doesn’t turn into a wipe-fest, 2) treat seasonal currency like your real boss material, and 3) spend it on the Greater Equipment chests instead of random stuff. Also, stop pretending Obol gambling is your Mythic ticket. It’s not. If you’re sitting on Resplendent Sparks, be picky and craft the one Mythic that actually unlocks your build, like Tyrael’s Might, then build around it instead of waiting for a miracle drop. The grind’s still heavy, sure, but at least the direction isn’t guesswork anymore. When you just want to play, not farm spreadsheets
Even with the „right“ method, the time cost is real: entry mats, gold for Masterworking, and the constant loop of upgrading bases that might not even roll right. If you’ve got work, kids, or you’re simply not in the mood to live in a farm route all week, it’s understandable to shortcut the dull parts by grabbing GA bases, materials, or currency from u4gm so your limited playtime goes into pushing Torment tiers and testing builds, not staring at an empty stash tab and another list of things to farm. -
