The Dragon Defender is one of the most coveted items in Old School RuneScape (OSRS), offering a substantial boost to a player’s combat abilities, particularly in terms of attack and defense. While its stats make it a fantastic choice for both PvM (Player versus Monster) and PvP (Player versus Player) combat, acquiring the Dragon Defender requires time, effort, and dedication. This guide will take you through all the steps necessary to obtain this powerful item, from completing quests to fighting powerful monsters in the Warrior’s Guild.

    What is the Dragon Defender?

The Dragon Defender is the best off-hand defensive item available in OSRS. It provides:

    +20 Defence

    +10 Strength

    +10 Attack

    +5 Prayer

The Dragon Defender outperforms all lower-tier defenders in terms of defensive stats, making it the go-to choice for players who rely on melee combat. It can be used in conjunction with a wide variety of weapons and is particularly useful when paired with high-damage melee weapons like the Abyssal whip or Saradomin sword.

However, the Dragon Defender is not something you can simply purchase from a shop. You’ll need to earn it through a series of steps and challenges. Let’s walk through the process.

Step 1: Complete the Defender of Varrock Quest

Before you can even access the Warrior’s Guild, where the Dragon Defender is obtained, you must complete the Defender of Varrock quest. This quest serves as a gateway, allowing you to enter the Warrior’s Guild and start your journey to obtaining the Dragon Defender.

    Defender of Varrock Requirements:

    Quest Level: 32 Quest Points

Required Skills: None, though you should be comfortable with combat as there are some enemies you’ll need to defeat in the quest.

    Items Needed: None

    How to Complete the Quest:

The quest is relatively straightforward and takes place in Varrock. You will assist a warrior named Gorad to reclaim the Warrior’s Guild from some mysterious forces. Once the quest is complete, you’ll unlock the ability to access the guild.

    Quest Rewards:

    Access to the Warrior’s Guild.

    Some experience in combat.

A brief introduction to how the Warrior’s Guild works, which will be crucial for obtaining the Dragon Defender.

Step 2: Understand the Warrior’s Guild

Once you’ve completed the Defender of Varrock quest, you can enter the Warrior’s Guild, located in Burthorpe, to the south of Varrock. The Warrior’s Guild is where you will grind out defenders, starting from the Bronze Defender all the way up to the Dragon Defender.

The Warrior’s Guild offers a variety of content, but the key focus here is the defender minigame, which requires Warrior Guild tokens. You’ll need to participate in these activities to earn tokens and eventually unlock the Dragon Defender.

    Warrior Guild Tokens:

Tokens are essential for participating in the Warrior’s Guild activities. You’ll need them to engage with the Animated Armours or Guardians in the guild, which are required to obtain defenders.

There are two main ways to earn tokens:

Defeating Animated Armours: These armours are scattered throughout the guild. The better the tier of defender you’re aiming for, the higher level of Animated Armour you need to defeat.

Killing the Guardians: These are high-level enemies within the Warrior’s Guild. They’re generally a better option for gaining tokens quickly.

You will need to earn tokens in order to participate in the minigames and begin collecting defenders. The token requirement for each challenge differs based on the tier of defender you’re after.

Combat Requirements for the Warrior’s Guild:

To access the Warrior’s Guild, your combined Attack and Strength levels must meet a threshold:

130 Combat (Attack + Strength combined) is required to participate in the higher-level guild activities. If you don’t meet this requirement, you will not be able to proceed to the areas where you can obtain the Dragon Defender.

If you’re lower than the required combined level, consider training up your combat stats before attempting to enter the Warrior’s Guild.
